About us

On 24 May 2010 the Government announced a package of measures to reduce expenditure in the public sector. This included the planned closure of Becta.  Becta senior staff are now in regular discussion with Government officials with regard to the timescales and processes for these reductions to be made.

Becta’s board, who are also trustees of the charity, are working to ensure that a fair and efficient process is in place to facilitate the required reductions and planned closure. More information about the planned closure of Becta can be found here.

Becta is the government agency leading the national drive to ensure the effective and innovative use of technology throughout learning.

We do this in order to:

  • Save the education system time and money
  • Raise standards
  • Make sure every learner can use technology to reach their potential, develop the skills for employment and play their full part in society
  • Ensure the country is competitive

You can read more about Becta’s role here.

Becta is a Non-Departmental Public Body funded by the Government. It is also registered as a Charity, and we run our finances on that basis.
